This month marks the four-year anniversary of our Novelis Global Research and Technology Center (NGRTC), a facility dedicated to aluminum innovation and customer service. Since its opening in 2012, the state-of-the-art facility has grown its employee base from 24 to nearly 150.
Originally a warehouse and distribution center located in Kennesaw, Georgia, Novelis leased the facility and transformed it into a state-of-the-art aluminum innovation laboratory with capabilities only found within its four walls – including a fully functioning beverage can pilot line and an Automotive Pre-Treatment Pilot Line (APPL), which we use to test new alloys and pre-treatments for our Automotive customers.
“Many of the technical capabilities at the NGRTC are unique to Novelis and even the industry at-large,” said Graeme Marshall, Director of the NGRTC. “Our work ensures successful and timely implementation of aluminum innovations and solutions to increase efficiencies and overcome critical customer problems – allowing our customers to save time and money.”
Armed with some of the highest level of scientific knowledge and technical expertise in the industry, the employees at the NGRTC are able to make technically sound decisions that advance our global partnerships. Spanning 17 nationalities and linked to Novelis R&T centers around the world, the center is comprised of a diverse set of experts – including researchers, engineers, metallurgists, plant technicians, can and automotive specialists – who work together to develop next generation solutions for our customers.
“From speaking the native languages of our operations and global customers, to creating far-reaching technical networks, and bringing multiple perspectives to overcome challenging problems, the NGRTC symbolizes diversity, collaboration and global innovation at its best,” said Graeme.
In our partnerships with global customers, the NGRTC will continue to serve as an integral part of our business and the development of next generation products and aluminum innovations. We look forward to the years ahead.
