Today, we announced our first major commitment in the electric vehicle market through a supplier agreement with NIO, a next-generation car company. Through a long-term partnership, NIO will leverage the unique properties of our high strength, lightweight aluminum alloys to design a lighter, better performing, & more fuel-efficient vehicle. Over the next five years, NIO will launch electric SUV models using Novelis’ automotive aluminum solutions. Leveraging our global reach, NIO will draw supply from our Changzhou plant—China’s first facility dedicated to heat-treated automotive sheet. Enabling a local supply source will be key to expediting NIO’s production schedule at a time […]
Last month, Ford Motor Company debuted the industry’s first aluminum-body SUV with the 2018 Ford Expedition. Novelis is proud to supply material for the high-strength aluminum-alloy body, and has helped create a weight savings of 300 pounds. With the help of aluminum, automakers can develop safer, stronger and more durable vehicles. I recently sat down with Jeff Gilbert of WWJ-AM Newsradio to discuss Novelis’ contributions and the overall benefits of incorporating aluminum into vehicle design. Listen in on our conversation here.
Novelis thanks our employees, customers, communities and partners around the world for being part of our business each and every day. While the world is diverse, this video reminds us that our shared values of hope, family and giving back bring us together every holiday season.
On America Recycles Day (November 15), Novelis and its partners including the City of Atlanta’s Office of Sustainability, the Atlanta Falcons, Green Guy, Habitat for Humanity, the National Black and Latino Council, and Keep America Beautiful, were honored for Recycle for Good – the grass-roots program that educates our communities on the value of recycling and promoting sustainable business practices. Its goal of recycling 3 million aluminum bottles and cans this football season will help fund a Habitat for Humanity home build for a family in Atlanta’s historic Westside community. As of November 15, Recycle for Good has saved 379,148 aluminum […]
Every year, more than $70 million worth of aluminum ends up in Georgia landfills. And across the U.S., unrecycled aluminum accounts for more than $1.5 billion worth of waste, unnecessarily filling up landfills. As the global leader in aluminum rolled products and the world’s largest aluminum recycler, we understand the value of recycling. In fact, recycling is at the core of everything we do. In our plants around the world, we work to preserve the value of aluminum and maximize the environmental benefits of using our products. Because recycling aluminum requires 95 percent less energy, it produces 95 percent fewer […]
The shine of a sealed aluminum can flashed by the watchful eyes of more than 70 high school students on June 8, as it fell on to an inclined plane, failing to leak or explode and therefore passing a standard Drop Test. The test was just one of several demonstrations presented by Novelis employees that day to the students, who were attendees of the Exploring Engineering Academy (EEA) and on a tour of Novelis’ Global Research & Technology Center (NGRTC). Hosted by the Atlanta Area Council Boy Scouts of America with Novelis as the presenting sponsor, the weeklong program gives […]
This month marks the four-year anniversary of our Novelis Global Research and Technology Center (NGRTC), a facility dedicated to aluminum innovation and customer service. Since its opening in 2012, the state-of-the-art facility has grown its employee base from 24 to nearly 150. Originally a warehouse and distribution center located in Kennesaw, Georgia, Novelis leased the facility and transformed it into a state-of-the-art aluminum innovation laboratory with capabilities only found within its four walls – including a fully functioning beverage can pilot line and an Automotive Pre-Treatment Pilot Line (APPL), which we use to test new alloys and pre-treatments for our Automotive […]
This week, Novelis announced its global supplier status for the aluminum used in GM’s new 2016 Cadillac CT6, a first-of-its-kind, lightweight platform vehicle in both China and North America. This is one of the most advanced body structures that we have ever worked on, and we are proud to be the lead global supplier of aluminum to this new and innovative vehicle program on two continents. Novelis is the only automotive aluminum sheet manufacturer with production capability in all three major auto-producing regions of the world – Asia, North America and Europe. As a result of our global footprint, Novelis aluminum […]
Since 2012, Novelis has been an international partner of FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), in support of developing future talent for STEM careers. And from April 27-30, five Novelis-sponsored teams – one from Switzerland, three from the U.S. and one from Brazil – competed in the FIRST Global Championship in St. Louis. FIRST is dedicated to inspiring students interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through robotics – a subject very important to Novelis. By supporting FIRST engineering competitions, mentoring students, donating aluminum and providing financial assistance to more than 15 robotics teams across our regions, Novelis […]
Yesterday, our long-time customer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) celebrated a significant milestone: the Jaguar XE’s first full year of sales and, even more impressive, 500,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions saved through closed-loop aluminum recycling. As a key supplier and recycling partner for the vehicle, Novelis played an important role in helping JLR achieve this milestone. Through our close collaboration on the REALCAR program, the development of the Novelis RC5754 alloy and the closed-loop recycling system we have in place with JLR, together we were able to recycle 50,000 tonnes of aluminum scrap in the past year – equal to […]
