We are excited to announce that Novelis is partnering with the U.S. Department of Energy as a part of the DOE’s Better Plants program as part of our commitment to reduce energy usage in our U.S. plant facilities This partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy will support Novelis’ sustainability goal of reducing energy intensity by 39% by the end of 2020.
As a part of this partnership, Novelis has pledged to reduce energy usage in all our U.S. plants over the next ten years. While we have made significant progress towards our 2020 goals in the past three years, we still have a long way to go before we hit our targets, and initiatives like the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Plants program will help propel us forward.
As part of the Better Plants program, the DOE will work with Novelis’ U.S. facilities to help analyze each plant’s energy usage, assist in implementing advanced technology and software to support the plant’s energy saving goals and provide in-plant training to take on energy-saving projects.
Although the U.S. Department of Energy is limited to assisting only plants located in the U.S., Novelis has plans to share best practices learned from this partnership and incorporate them into our global strategy.
