As a global manufacturing company based in Atlanta, GA, Novelis has U.S. operations in New York, Indiana, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Georgia, as well as in 10 other countries around the world. We are committed to making those facilities and the products of our operations as sustainable as possible.
Climate change poses real financial risks and substantial economic opportunities for business, and as part of a global economy, we must stop dragging our feet in the U.S. and act now.
At Novelis, we have already committed to reducing our absolute, life cycle greenhouse gas emissions. We are working to reduce our energy usage by 39 percent per metric ton of sales by the end of the decade.
As a metals manufacturer, if we can do it, others can too. The Clean Power Plan is a step in the right direction in moving the U.S. towards a clean energy economy, and we at Novelis are committed to working together with other stakeholders to transition to the low carbon economy of the future.
More than 200 U.S.-based companies, many ranked in the Fortune 500, have joined together to sign a Climate Declaration demonstrating our support of the Plan, as proposed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Novelis customers — some of the world’s largest and best known consumer brands — are also keenly focused on developing more sustainable practices — including reducing the environmental footprints of their own products. And some, like GM, Diageo and others, have already signed the Declaration alongside Novelis.
We’re not alone in our support of this movement and we’re proud to work alongside others that believe in creating the same sustainable, economic future. Unless and until we collectively commit to a low carbon future, the U.S. is not going to see the reductions we need to maintain healthy economic growth.
