This week marks the kick-off of Novelis’ annual global volunteer month. In addition to volunteering their time and expertise in local communities year round, Novelis employees unite globally each October to drive impact locally in the core areas of recycling/sustainability, safety and math and science education.
The Novelis Küsnacht office in Zurich was the first of 33 sites to kick off the month of service. Passionate about sustainability not only in their work but also their free time, Küsnacht employees decided to partner with the Gemeinde Küsnacht and Quadra Gmbh, a nonprofit organization committed to maintaining intact natural environments in Switzerland.
Each autumn, Swiss forest rangers clear trees to sustain and keep healthy the local habitats. The Novelis Küsnacht team supported these rangers by hiking into the Nature Reserve Rotenstein and cleaning out remaining debris from the annual clearing, thinning out the forest edges and clearing areas overgrown with plant species that dominate other vegetation.
As these photos show, there’s nothing like being in nature to remind us of why sustainability should be a forethought, not an afterthought, both in business and in our daily lives.
