Every year, more than $70 million worth of aluminum ends up in Georgia landfills. And across the U.S., unrecycled aluminum accounts for more than $1.5 billion worth of waste, unnecessarily filling up landfills.
As the global leader in aluminum rolled products and the world’s largest aluminum recycler, we understand the value of recycling. In fact, recycling is at the core of everything we do.
In our plants around the world, we work to preserve the value of aluminum and maximize the environmental benefits of using our products. Because recycling aluminum requires 95 percent less energy, it produces 95 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions than primary aluminum production. Each day, we bring these benefits to our customers in the can, automotive and specialties industries – as well as to the communities we call home.
That is why we are proud to continue our five-year recycling partnership with the Atlanta Falcons and to join Atlanta Habitat for Humanity to launch Recycle for Good, a new program that seeks to level up our activity in the community and underscores the true value of recycling.
Think about the wasted value of more than $70 million worth of aluminum sitting in landfills across Georgia. Imagine the difference that money could make in our communities, if only more cans were recycled. At Novelis, we have imagined that impact – and we’re determined to bring it to life.
The goal of Recycle for Good is to recycle 3 million aluminum cans throughout the 2016 football season. The cans collected will be recycled at our plant in Greensboro, Georgia where we will convert the value of aluminum to support Atlanta Habitat for Humanity in building a home for a family in need.
During all 2016 home games, Novelis will provide recycling bags in the tailgate areas around the Georgia Dome, create a designated drop-off location on the West Plaza and will sponsor a sorting program to ensure as many aluminum cans as possible are recycled throughout the season. Can collection centers will also be set up at West Side Works and the Atlanta Habitat for Humanity headquarters for fans to contribute their cans during away games and any time throughout the season.
Together with our partners, we will endeavor to educate our community on the real, tangible value of recycling and inspire them through the good that can come of it. Through the simple effort of recycling cans, we can have a huge impact on a family and make our community a better place.
Every single can you recycle through Recycle for Good will move us one step closer toward building a safe, sustainable place for a family to call home – won’t you join us?
