The company won for achievements in sustainable manufacturing and smart manufacturing, and was named runner-up for work advancing automotive circularity
Novelis won two awards in two of three categories in the ALUMINIUM 2026 Innovation Awards, and was a runner-up in the third. The awards were presented at ALUMINIUM 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for the aluminum industry, held in Düsseldorf, Germany, from October 6 to 8.
In the Sustainability & Low Carbon Manufacturing category, Novelis received the award for its Ideal Furnaces program, a portfolio of furnace-efficiency initiatives designed to reduce energy consumption in aluminum casting and melting operations. Rather than relying on a single technology, the program scales proven solutions and operational best practices across Novelis plants, including regenerative burners, advanced burner controls, electromagnetic stirring, improved damper design and in-furnace camera vision systems. By transferring successful solutions across its manufacturing network, Novelis aims to reduce energy use and emissions while improving operational performance.
In the Smart Manufacturing, Automation and Connectivity category, Novelis won the award for its Advanced Predictive Maintenance program, which leverages data and analytics to enhance equipment reliability, improve operational performance and support more efficient manufacturing processes.
In addition, Novelis was named runner-up in the Technology and Product Innovation category for its work in partnership with JLR to advance true vehicle-to-vehicle circularity through the development of a 100% recycled end-of-life automotive alloy. The project demonstrates how aluminum recovered from end-of-life vehicles can be transformed into high-quality automotive sheet, creating new opportunities to reduce reliance on primary material while supporting a more circular automotive value chain.
The winning projects highlight how Novelis is turning innovation into measurable business and industry impact by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption in aluminum manufacturing, strengthening operational performance and reliability through automation and advancing circularity in the automotive industry.
