Novelis is the largest producer of aluminium beverage can sheet and the world’s largest recycler of used beverage cans – recycling more than 82 billion cans annually. Together with our customers, we work to develop new can shapes and sizes, new surface finishes as well as recycling alloys to reduce the carbon footprint of cans.

Laminated aluminium for can ends

With the new black-laminated aluminum can end material, Novelis offers a sustainable product innovation attractive to both beverage brands and can makers.

Lamination saves CO2 Emissions

Black lamination reduces the CO2 footprint of can end surface treatment by about 33% versus a regular liquid coating process.

This is not the saving on the entire product – it refers to the lamination versus the coating process of the aluminium strip.

  • Less Non-Intentionally Added Substances (NIAS) are generated
  • For a black laminated material, a third-party institute conducted “sweat and saliva”– performance. No color release was detectable
