“It has been almost five years since we announced our ambition to be the world’s leading provider of low-carbon, sustainable aluminum solutions that advance business, industry and society toward a circular economy. We are well on our way, but it is time to pick up the pace of progress. Novelis 3×30 is our ambitious vision to continue decarbonizing while meeting growing demand for our products. Through 3×30, we will help our customers accelerate their sustainability programs with the lower-carbon, higher-recycled-content products they need.”
Steve Fisher, President and Chief Executive Officer
Every second counts as we work to make aluminum the low-carbon, circular material of choice for a sustainable world.
Circularity is crucial, not only for lowering our carbon footprint and that of our customers, but also for minimizing waste and preserving critical resources.
Meeting our first objective to use 75% average recycled content across our products will also help us reach our carbon goal. Novelis also will seek out low-carbon primary aluminum and decarbonize our own processes.
Over the past decade, we have spent billions of dollars to expand our rolling, recycling and finishing capabilities, and we plan to continue to invest in new and better technologies.
We are evaluating the use of alternative fuels, new clean electricity sources, waste heat recovery and innovative carbon capture technology.
As an industry pioneer of closed-loop recycling, we’re well positioned to boost recycling collaborations, which will allow us to take back as much aluminum scrap as possible and insert it directly back into the supply chain.
We will continue developing alloys that can accept different types of aluminum scrap and work with customers to design their products for circularity.
We will work across the global aluminum value chain to create incentives for and address barriers to recycling by advocating for improved infrastructure, policy and education worldwide. We are also working on improving operating practices around the use of scrap and continuing to work with partners to improve scrap sorting technologies.
While we work to maximize the amount of recycled content in our products we will also look for opportunities to encourage and support a greater supply of low-carbon primary aluminum through collaborative efforts such as the First Movers Coalition.
